Newcastle Registers for Eco District

The Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Methodist District has taken the first steps to becoming an Eco District in registering for the A Rocha program. In our environmenal policy we state:

“The Newcastle Upon Tyne District affirms the 2019 Conference’s recognition of a Climate Emergency and it’s call for the UK to achieve net emissions well before 2050. We believe that our world was created by God to provide physical, emotional and spiritual nourishment for human beings. The created order, humans, animals, plants and ecosystems are interconnected and interdependent so that damage done to one part will cause damage to all. We believe that God gave responsibility to humans to care for the whole created order. (Genesis 1:26-30)”

Working towards the Eco District accreditations raises the profile of our climate actions and our need to protect and enable the flourishing of our common home. We hope to encourage more churches to work towards Eco Church accrediation themselves and for everyone connected to our churches to consider how they might “do their bit” for creation.

There are 9 steps to achieving the initial bronze level of accreditation and anyone interested in helping the District with this process should get in touch with kathy@newcastlemethodistdistrict.org.
